Storefront Signage is Your Billboard

Storefront Signage is Your Billboard

Storefront signage is the “curb-appeal” of your business.  Having a unique and inviting storefront presence is essential for the success of your retail establishment.

Be Consistent

Brand consistency plays a major role here.  If your customer has done their research, perhaps finding you on-line using a search engine, they will expect to see the same “look & feel” on your sign as they pull up to your store…so don’t forget to implement good graphics on your storefront signage, especially if you are on a major strip or a high traffic area.

Be Visible

Make sure your sign is visible from the most important angles.  Place you sign in an ideal place for maximum viewing for passers-by.  Consider a lighted sign or illuminated sign for nighttime vision.

Be Attractive

If you are trying to win your customers business, be attractive.  People respond positively to good graphics.  They will be more likely to walk into your store if your sign is attractive.

Be Informative

Make sure your key information is clear on your sign, mainly your name and phone number

We recently visited Ellicottville NY and strolled down their lovely main street. I was impressed by the storefront signage displayed up and down the avenue. Here are some samples:

My Wonderful Dancing Design Intern

Its amazing how you can work side by side with someone for an entire six weeks, intimately sharing conversations and an office space, ideas, struggles, highs and lows, and come to find out that person has a lovely intense side to them that you never even touched upon. Maybe I just wasn’t listening?

This spring we took a design intern from our community to help in our graphic design studio. Samantha is interested in pursuing a career in graphic design and will be a freshman at Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City this fall.

Samantha DancingSamantha explained to me very early on how this past year she had a major decision to make. Would she pursue a career in graphic design or continue on with her love of the ballet…dancing, which she had done since she was a little girl.

Her decision to pursue graphic design as a career brought her to our studio in Croton on Hudson, NY to see if she really “likes it” and wanted to go for it. She would talk about her decision of graphic design over dance in a way that indicated she had given it much thought and prayer.

Yesterday she sent me these pictures of herself dancing in her last performance. I was awestruck. Just look at how beautiful she is. Somehow seeing those pictures made me wonder about her choice…. but I trust she did what is right for her.

Samantha is bright, witty and an extremely hard worker. She showed up for work each day, smiling, and enthusiastic ready to take on whatever we gave her, and ready to learn something new for the day. She is truly inspiring.

Samantha will succeed in whatever she does, because she chooses to have a bright positive attitude, which spills over into her design work and out onto everyone she’s around. It’s downright contagious!

The Graphic Artist Craves Order

As a graphic artist, I found my self in the position, once again of being a pesty nudge. There, I said it.  This past weekend I worked with brilliant woman who totally re-configured my website.  She took what was an older WordPress theme, and completely re arranged things installing a new theme and making the whole thing function quite nicely.  (more…)
