I swear we weren’t trying to come up with ideas for logo designs.  Joe and I were sitting on the deck one recent Saturday afternoon. All was quiet and well.  The kids were all busy with their social schedules. Even our youngest daughter Loretta, at 14 was now engaging in activities with her girlfriends that kept her asking for money to go to The Black Cow for a mocha latte, decaf, of course.
As we sat there listening to Dylan (yes, Bob) and enjoying the solitude. A moment of inspiration came. Joe turned to me and said “I got it” Usually when one of us says,” I got it” it means we have hatched an enlightened idea about something that we are currently working on.  Joe and I breathe design. We have a heighten awareness of all things graphic design. We kind of see the world through the lenses of …well, visuals and graphics and the spacing between the letters of a logo and the way the colors work….all that kind of stuff.

Ideas for Logo designsThat afternoon on the deck, We were pondering the letterforms of a company name of a client we had just started work for.  We were in the throws of a Phase 1 for a construction management company in North White Plains, NY who had called us to re-invent their brand identity.  The name of the company? The Warjam Group LTD.  When Joe told me “I got it” he was referring to the letterforms in the word Warjam—he said,” Jan? What are the two common letters in that word?”  “Uh…I said the A’s?”  “Exactly!” he said, explaining to me that the A’s were going to create window peaks in this next logo creation….briliant…Next thing I know, we’re cranking out an excellent innovative type-treatment for The Warjam Group. We come up with ideas for logos in many different ways..sometimes there is a moment of magical inspiration and sometimes we are laboring over fonts and drawings of relavent icons, trying to make them work.  Our client wound up choosing a different logo design, but that one with the “A’s” was very cool.

Steve Jobs quote is so appropriate to us: “Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. “

At Hudson Valley Graphic Design, we spend time visualizing the letterforms in the name of your company, bouncing ideas off each other, while we’re sitting on our deck, thinking up ways to create a proprietary logo for your brand…it’s just who we are.
