It’s simple. Twitter is the fastest way to spread news and thoughts.  But WHY must businesses use this outlet to promote themselves?

Most people don’t understand why there is a need to tell of their personal intimate details every second of the day. Most people don’t actually share all of this information; it is more or less a common misconception. The over-sharing on Twitter was more noticeable when they first popped up in 2006 and luckily for those of us who don’t have a desire to read about other’s showering habits or dinner plans, people have simmered down.

As of September 2013, Twitter had 250 million active users. That’s 250 million opportunities you have to get your brand noticed.

You tweet. People read. People follow. You expand your network. Simple as that.

But in order to do so, you have to tweet! Tweet your blog post. Tweet a picture of your business.  Tweet your dog. Tweet your logo. Even go crazy and re-tweet an interesting (appropriate) article. Thank your followers for their re-tweets.

Recognition

Even more importantly, having all of these social media outlets helps with brand continuity and brand recognition. It is crucial to have these sites with the appropriate logo for your brand to help gain recognition.

I guess to put it bluntly: It couldn’t hurt your business to take a few minutes a day to send out a tweet.  There are diehard tweeters who are constantly reading what is going on 24/7. There are people looking for deals, looking for coupons, and looking for the next raffle to appear. These are the people who follow everyone, just to follow and to in turn be followed.

Old Typewriter

If you’re at a sporting event or a charity event and something remarkable happens (whether it be a national disaster or something as fun as a celebrity making a surprise entrance) you can guarantee there are going to be tweets sent out into the “twittersphere” to record this happening. Those people alone, are the reason we tweet.

Twitter makes everyone in the world a source. When the Boston Bombings occurred, one of the first reported signs was a Tweet almost exactly when the first bomb went off. Everything on Twitter happens in real-time and that is exactly what people are looking for.

You need to tweet to be noticed. Get your hashtag (#) out there and make a name for yourself. And hashtag to death.
