Don’t be fooled into thinking you can “cheap out” on your website. Website design and development is a vital piece for any business and often a struggle for small companies.
I got a call yesterday from a couple that owns a dog training business. They told me how they went to visit their current website, and it was shut down. They contacted the service provider and were told that since they had not re-registered their domain name, that name was taken by someone else. Bummer!
The reason for their call was that they were interested in developing a new website design for their business. They had some new ideas and wanted to create a new fresh look—tailored to their client’s needs.
Their question was this: should we sign on with “company x” and buy in to their deal of a $100 per month service charge, free website development and free hosting package? Their budget is slim and hiring an agency to build a custom website was going to be a stretch.
Many people go this route. They take advantage of the offers from web-hosting companies to build and maintain their website.
My comment? You get what you pay for. And perhaps that’s all you need.
But, if you would like your customer to take you seriously. If you would like to launch your business sporting a professional look. If you want this to be an actual business, not a hobby…my suggestion is to make the investment, hire a professional and have your website design built professionally by a designer and developer who really know and understand what they’re doing.
