Now that we are in the digital age where Facebook posts and Tweets are amongst the most common and popular way to keep your business’s name in the back of people’s minds, we forget about the old fashioned newspaper and magazine articles that once held the public’s interest. We forgot how to marvel at a newspaper, how the ink stained your hands and how sharing your paper with a stranger may have made their day. We forgot that there is a beauty in Public Relations, one that is different than social media marketing. There is something to be said about being published in the newspaper or in a magazine. An awesome way to expose yourself, as we’d like to think.
If you are familiar with the older generations, you know that they do not use Instagram. They don’t follow you on Facebook or read your latest Tweet. They are home in their lazy boy, or sitting on a park bench reading the paper. Even though they don’t have the latest technology, they too are still a potential client/customer. We are not dismissing the 20-40 year olds who rely solely on social media, but sometimes we forget about different generations when there is such a buzz with social media!
This month, Hudson Valley Graphic Design was published in the Croton Gazette, The Journal News, The Westchester County Business Journal. (WooHoo!) We believe that kind of PR can really benefit your business. It is an entirely different feeling when you see an article about your business printed in the newspaper. Newspapers are not something difficult you have to search for online, they are right there. Tangible pieces of evidence showing that you made it!
Yes, you can post a blurb quickly on Facebook but the PR pieces printed in a magazine or newspaper give a more in depth look.
- It’s a piece that will always be in the archives and that cannot disappear like a Tweet.
- It reaches an entirely new audience. Those not following you on social media, and those who don’t know your name. Hellloo new clients!
- Creates great publicity – Example: The article about HVGD in The Journal News highlighted our big win at The Advertising Club of Westchester where we won a Gold, Silver and Bronze award for three of our designs!
Now THATS the beauty of PR
