I was nine years old when the uniformed officer knocked on our door with the telegram. I remember seeing my sister burst into tears as she read the words. My big brother Michael, who had been stationed in Viet Nam for only two months had been wounded and was being flown to a hospital in Japan. The tragedy hit hard in our little community of Baldwin, NY.
Respect for Those Who Serve
My respect for the military goes beyond words. With a father who served our county in World War II under General Patton and two brothers, one in the army, the other a marine, I have grown to have a humble reverence for those who serve to make this great nation one of freedom and liberty.
Designing Event Graphics for West Point
In a very small way, I have had the great opportunity to “give-back” by creating event graphics for the Army Cyber Institute at West Point. Not only is this an honor, but I feel I am getting to use my talents to enhance the cause by branding the Joint Service Academy’s Cyber Security Summits, giving them a professional look that depicts a seasoned, credentialed organization.
Proprietary event graphics can have a profound effect on your bottom line. By utilizing some basic branding tools, your organization, event or product can be perceived as professional, competent and experienced by your ideal client. When people see that you have invested in the “look & feel” of your own company, they will assume you care enough to make a significant invest in theirs.
That summer we drove down to Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC practically every weekend to visit my brother as he slowly regained the use of his body. Little did I know that as an adult I would be designing website homepage graphics and brochure covers along with social media marketing for an organization that holds the superiority as West Point does.
I am honored and humbled at this task. I would love to hear your comments, experience and feedback on this post.
This post touched ME in so many ways. It’s nice to be able to give back to cause that has so impacted ones life. I’m glad you had the opportunity. And what you said about the creation of a brand that reflects the integrity that you intend for your business is indeed critical. Well said!
Michael and I appreciated your blog. We are so proud of YOU. Hugs
Well, you two know how I feel about you–thank you for all your support, it means so much to me!
Thank you Maureen! I appreciate your words. I have often said that the “real” story is the best story. Each of us has a story to tell–each brand, too. Thanks again for stopping by!
