I just signed my first lease for a commercial office space. The decision to put my name on the dotted line was quick, but calculated. Moving out of your home office sometimes is. I wasn’t even really looking for the opportunity when it presented itself. It was more like an intuition thing.
My company is approaching its fourth year as an LLC, and has seen steady growth. I was initially working out of my dining room, but after one year, graduated to the more spacious basement, which has a separate entrance for clients and employees.
Know When It’s Time
Someone once told me that a business is like a locomotive. In the beginning you have to push, push, push, working hard to get it going. Then, at a certain point, after much effort, and perhaps several years of working and pushing, it starts to take off on it’s own. The momentum has kicked in, and the locomotive starts moving along, the phone starts ringing, the requests start streaming in.
When that starts to happen, you can do one of two things. You can “let the seams out” and allow the company to grow, hire a team, servicing the callers, answering the inquiries and working with your current base as they build their brand. Or, you can stall where you are, not embracing the opportunities right in front of you. We’ve been steadily “letting the seams out” for a solid year, thus prompting our need for a more professional environment.
It’s a beautiful thing
Working with entrepreneurs is a most rewarding experience. To see the look on their faces as we present our design exploratory to them, after listening to their vision for their service or product, watching their eyes light up, seeing their dream come to a reality, is precious to us. This is our definition of success.
Building Our Own Brand
Moving into an office space is the next natural step for us. It means we are servicing our clients well, seeing the growth that that brings. We are always building our own brand, and creating an environment that reflects it will be an exciting endeavor.
