You never get a second chance at a first impression. This applies to your brand logo and website homepage as well as everything else. The message your brand’s logo communicates in that split second first impression is a lasting one and one that you, dare say, will never be able to get rid of. The reaction of your potential customer when they see your logo design for the first time is hard to change.
I confess I am guilty of harsh judgment upon first impression. Maybe because I am a graphic designer, and am married to a graphic designer, I pass judgment on brands that pay little attention or have unprofessional logo designs. When I see something shoddily designed or not designed at all, I think “Well..there’s a missed opportunity. That very great company missed an opportunity to display their “greatness”!
You business branding must be excellent at first sight. People need to look at your brand mark and think “oooh, I like that!” True, graphic design IS subjective.and there are things I like that my (designer) husband hates…but overall, your logo must be pleasing to the eye, professionally designed by someone who knows what they’re doing (not your nephew who likes to draw pretty pictures). So, then what is the answer to all this first impression stuff?
It’s well worth the investment to have your logo professionally designed.
Hire a designer who is experienced. Make sure the person designing your business branding has experience with brand identity. Ask to see their work. Make sure you like what you see. Don’t expect that YOUR job will be the job they “blossom” on. If you like their portfolio of graphic design projects, it is most likely you will like the designs they produce for you.
