WARNING: This is a true story that happened to Joe and I as we were casually strolling down the “Nautical Mile” in Freeport, New York, enjoying the sights and scents of this special place.
As we headed through the crowd, a group of guys (drunkin’ fools) walked by us. Joe happened to be wearing his orange polo and this one goof-ball yells out “Is it Halloween? You look like an orange pumpkin!” I immediately felt my husband’s body tighten as he squeezed my hand. I whispered, “just ignore him”. Joe blurted out something in reply. They barked at each other a bit more, and it was over.
Color plays such an extremely important role in our daily lives, doesn’t it? The psychology of color as it relates to persuasion is hard to ignore. When it comes to the branding of your company, owning a color is an easy way to identify your brand’s personality while invoking the perception and feelings you want your customer to have.
Establish a brand color palette for your company and stick with it. Make sure you choose a color that can be easily found when ordering your swag or folders or chairs for your waiting room. People notice color especially when you use it in strategic ways.
When entering our studio in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, you will notice our color is orange. Inevitably, when visitors walk into the space they say something like…”I like all the orange.” They make a mental note–and when it shows up in our marketing collateral–they start to develop and expectation, a trust. This is the power of brand color. Don’t miss my “Everything Orange” Pinterest board!
