Choosing just the right name for your business brand can be a daunting task. Should it be short and cute? Should it be solid and credentialed? Should it be catchy? All these things must be considered when you start a company or launch a product. We help our clients created impressive compelling names for their products or service.
Next to your logo design, the name you choose is probably the most important part of your identity. If people can’t spell it or figure out how to say it, you’re not going to attract many customers. If it takes people too much time to figure out your name they will just move on. So make sure your name is compelling and appropriate for your product or service.
- Be catchy
- Be memorable
- Be unique
We recently worked with a doctor who had a practice in Chappaqua, New York. He came to us for a logo design and brand consultation. The name of his practice was Integrative Medical Wellness. As we discussed his project, we became familiar with his vision and who his ideal customer was c going to be. In our Phase 1 design exploratory we made a suggestion. What if he shortened his name to “I.M.WELL”. So that patients/customers would recognize the end-product outcome of using his service, after all, who doesn’t want to state, “I am well!” He loved the idea! SO, he is using Integrative Medical Wellness as his official name…but IMWELL as his business name—the name everyone will know him as. The way we see it is this: no one will remember Integrative medical wellness…but they will remember IMWELL!
Determining whether a name is available for use is simple. Doing an internet search of name availability will show you if you can use the name you’ve chosen, or if it’s already taken.
When choosing a name, try to put yourself in the shoes of your client. Think memorable. Think catchy. Think quick-descriptor. Always remember to “be” your ideal customer when you are considering your branding.
