Remember Listening to Record Albums?

I have a thing or two to say about listening to record albums, you know, vinyl LP’s. Because we’re trying to simplify, and basically get rid of a lot of stuff, Joe spent last weekend in the attic, going through, throwing out, and discovering treasure.  He came upon our old Pioneer turntable and Sony receiver (remember receivers?) and brought it out as a fun holiday treat.  And what it a treat is has been. CORNucopia Was Fun and Educational!

A fun day was had at the CORNucopia in Sleepy Hollow,NY.  Now that my children are a bit older, we seldom take adventures to educational/fun events in the area the way we used to.  Yesterday was different. We went to the CORNucopia, Hudson Valley’s first corn festival at Philipsburg Manor in Sleepy Hollow, NY.  What a great event. (more…)

My Wonderful Dancing Design Intern

Its amazing how you can work side by side with someone for an entire six weeks, intimately sharing conversations and an office space, ideas, struggles, highs and lows, and come to find out that person has a lovely intense side to them that you never even touched upon. Maybe I just wasn’t listening?

This spring we took a design intern from our community to help in our graphic design studio. Samantha is interested in pursuing a career in graphic design and will be a freshman at Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City this fall.

Samantha DancingSamantha explained to me very early on how this past year she had a major decision to make. Would she pursue a career in graphic design or continue on with her love of the ballet…dancing, which she had done since she was a little girl.

Her decision to pursue graphic design as a career brought her to our studio in Croton on Hudson, NY to see if she really “likes it” and wanted to go for it. She would talk about her decision of graphic design over dance in a way that indicated she had given it much thought and prayer.

Yesterday she sent me these pictures of herself dancing in her last performance. I was awestruck. Just look at how beautiful she is. Somehow seeing those pictures made me wonder about her choice…. but I trust she did what is right for her.

Samantha is bright, witty and an extremely hard worker. She showed up for work each day, smiling, and enthusiastic ready to take on whatever we gave her, and ready to learn something new for the day. She is truly inspiring.

Samantha will succeed in whatever she does, because she chooses to have a bright positive attitude, which spills over into her design work and out onto everyone she’s around. It’s downright contagious!

Father’s Day Reflection

Father’s Day Reflection

Daddy, you would be proud of me on this Father’s Day. You would be proud that I am using my God-given talent to serve my community and others.

You would be proud that I have committed my self to excellence in design and life. You would be proud that I try my hardest (well, most of the time) to establish meaningful relationships with my family friends and neighbors.  Just like you taught me, Dadd-i-o.

You always shined when I displayed my artwork.  You would be very proud of the many displays of my artwork today, throughout this community and throughout the greater New York area.

You used to chuckle and say “That’s New York” when I was off to my classes at Parsons or off to a client meeting while designing for corporate…and now you would chuckle still as I design for local small businesses who would rather work directly with a talented designer that talk over the phone with a company who pushes out graphics likes it’s selling candy.

Today on Father’s Day, 2013.I want to thank you Dadd-i-o , Walter Geary, for the work ethic you instilled in me and the values you gave me.  I love you so.
