I made a corporate decision this week about my twitter profile. For all the years that I have been using twitter to engage and inform my customers, and develop followers, I have been using my company logo as my profile picture.

This week, as I was sitting in on a very informative Blab session with Mark Schaefer and Chris Brogan, I had a light-bulb moment. If you have ever been to a blab session…don’t know what a blab session is? It’s an online live conversation, and if you are smart about it, you can sit in on the experts and learn so much about so much in regards to the world of social media marketing today and business in general.

As I sat, listened and participated with these guys, I realized that most of the participants used their twitter profile pictures to represent them, not their company. They were being represented as human beings, not corporations. I liked that.

You are Your Brand

I am very curious to see how this goes. I am going to watch how and if this affects my twitter traffic.

Becoming a “Real” Person

twitter profile pictureMy thought is that my company will now become a “real person”, more relatable. After all, I am my brand. My company is me.  When my customers interact with my company it is me they are getting, with my many years of branding and marketing experience.

I would love to hear your thoughts about this. Do you like when you see a person’s head shot as their profile picture, or do you prefer seeing their company avatar?
